The Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for designing and developing engaging, effective training experiences using the ADDIE model and the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework. The ID will collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create new instructional content and revise existing materials to support continuous learning and clinical excellence. The ID must be innovative in their approach, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. The ID will build and deliver training utilizing a variety of different methods, including our Learning Management System (LMS).


Essential Functions:

 

Analysis:

  • Meets with the Manager of Education to understand training requests, review training outlines, and initiate projects
  • Works with stakeholders to determine learning objectives, training materials needed, assessments, etc.

Design:

  • Assists in creating training consistent with UbD theory that effectively conveys key information and achieves learning objectives
  • Identifies best instructional design techniques/modality to ensure maximum learner adoption, completion, and retention
  • Reviews training approach with Manager of Education, gains approval to move forward

Development:

  • Assists in creating materials used as part of the learning experience
  • Creates practice exercises, knowledge checks, and other elements designed to drive learner knowledge retention in the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Sends training materials for all required reviews, gains, and documents approvals
  • Creates test and evaluation questions for the course
  • Effectively uses training technology tools in the LMS
  • Works with subject matter experts and Manager of Education to:
  • Researches and gathers the content
  • Rewrites and edits the content, as needed
  • Solicits and incorporates feedback from all key project members

Implementation:

  • Builds content into the publishing software and/or the LMS
  • Conducts train the trainer sessions, as needed

Evaluation:

  • Maintains and modifies existing training programs
  • Reviews and addresses learner feedback in the LMS, revises content/curricula as needed
  • Holds SMEs and others accountable for updated content delivery, review, and approval deadlines, escalates appropriately
  • Regularly communicates project status to L&D Director and other interested parties
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously through the project lifecycle
  • Uses appropriate tools, templates, and processes

Partnership:

  • Builds strong relationships project team, SMEs, LMS provider, and other vendors
  • Consults with stakeholders on effective use of the training materials in the field
  • Partners with training colleagues to ensure training messaging is consistent and to identify efficiencies (e.g. content that can be leveraged)

Other Key Responsibilities May Include:

  • Makes recommendations to continuously improve internal processes, standards, and training solutions
  • Monitors and observes employees performing their jobs to effectively design and develop training.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Technical skills including troubleshooting, and understanding of directory, file structures, and systems
  • Ability to collaborate with others at all levels of the organization as well as vendors
  • Coursework and/or certifications relating to Instructional Design
  • Social media or knowledge management experience

Required Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Instructional Designer or similar position
